‘Grumpy Gramps’ comes from having been around the walks of life now for a good long time and those who know me, know that I have my thoughts and opinions which seem to spew out once in a while much to the chagrin of my wife and a few of my grandkids. When it does happen the grandkids sometimes say oh Gramps is getting grumpy – so the name ‘Grumpy Gramps’.
Almost two weeks ago we took a short (and I mean short like just a couple of days) vacation trip to revisit, for the first time in five years and since my massive heart attack and COPD diagnosis, the family cottage in the Black Hills of South Dakota for a few moments of just being totally out of touch, out of mind, out of sound and out of sight.
Please, please somebody put the politics on pause. No matter where I go, what I try to do or even when I talk with someone it seems that the current state of affairs of politics comes up, please give me a day or two reprieve.
Yes, people who know me are going to say ‘well you don’t seem to have a problem expressing your opinion about the prospective presidential nominees, so you asking for a pause is almost silly’ – and yep they may be correct to a point, but everybody needs a break or reprieve from their jobs or passions.
Guess the fact of the matter is, even I will soon begin a series of ‘Grumpy Gramps’ writes that will be tuned into how I see or don’t see the current political mess going on in this country because I have something to say and eventually I will say it. Call that a warning if you want, but it will be coming.
But for today and maybe tomorrow just give me a break from all the constant flow of information, massive flow of misinformation and the constant bickering between not only the two major political parties but also within those parties themselves – it has gotten to the point where it is almost nauseating.
Maybe if we all put down our news feeds for a day or two and concentrated on something much more important, like seeing the human being within ourselves and our neighbors or taking real quality time with the kids or grandkids by playing outside with a game of catch, fishing or bocce ball.
The three things that just get too overwhelming are the massive amounts of misinformation tossed out from all sides of the political spectrum, the unbelievable amount of hate that is being drummed up by some sides and the constant, constant onslaught of political news being presented by so many news networks and spot shots on the internet.
It’s pretty bad when I can’t even get to a link on my laptop or tablet without having to wait a minimum of 10-15 seconds to hear all or part of some outlandish political crap thrown my direction.
The whole political procession this presidential season has become like a big mud puddle with everyone seemingly throwing mud at each other and acting like the childish kids that would do that if one were found outside your home.
Or maybe, just maybe I simply need a breather for myself to collect my own thoughts, ideas and opinions before I step out onto a grander stage with my own series of writes about Donald Trumpy, Hillary Clinton and maybe even that Johnson fellow who is running I think as the Libertarian.
Yep, maybe I just need a break from the constant input of information, misinformation, slander, mud, egomania and all to let my own mind relax, take a deep breath and gather its own self together before starting my own run down the home stretch of 90-days to the next presidential election.
There you have it, another ‘Grumpy Gramps’ and while many may be spewing about things they don’t like or see has being wrong – many times it will be just ‘getting it off my chest’ type of sharing. So enjoy, think about it and if you feel the need or want – send me a comment or two and ‘Grumpy Gramps’ promises to get back to you.
